Default 1990 dodge 4spd reliable?

i recently bought a 1990 d-150 to restore, fix up, tinker with, so on and so on. it has a 318 tbi with 4spd OD tranny. the truck has 204,000 on it and the tranny has a new clutch and throw out bearing.
future plans include a magnum 360 with carb, heads and a small cam. will the 4spd hold up? now this isnt going to be just an all out hot rod motor just simple reliable and fun, do i need to swap to a floor shift auto? i really do like having a manual tranny.

if it wont hold up what needs to be changed to put in an auto? how hard will it be?
thanks.
