Talking 1985 Slant 6

Hey guys, a buddy of mine in Ohio just called me and said he was going to look at a 1985 Dodge Ram with a slant 6. The body is mint no rust at all it was kept in storage and the guy is selling it to my buddy for $600. He doesn't need it or want it and so he told my buddy that he would give him a hell of a deal on it. That's all we know about the truck so far, but I was just wondering did the slant 6 motor's have (normally) automatic or manual transmissions? Were slant 6 motors put in 4WD trucks? I'm just really curious. It's been awhile since I've known someone with a slant 6 first gen Ram, normally the guys I know have 318's or occasionally a 360.

To answer one of your questions, my 83 came out with a slant six. As far as the tranny question, I know they used both the auto and the manual in the two bys, not sure about the 4x but I would tend to guess they had.

I still own an 85 Dodge with a slant 6 & manual transmission. The engine and transmission in those things are absolutely indestructible. I just went over 400,000 miles recently with the ORIGINAL engine & transmission. Hell, I would go YEARS without ever changing the oil. So if your buddy can get one with the body still in good condition and for a good deal, I'd jump all over that. Over the years (24) I've had to replace just about everything else in the truck, but it's so easy to work on that ANYONE can do it if you buy the repair manual.

I would definently recomend not to go YEARS with out an oil change, Should be changed more often like every 3000 miles at least or at the most 6 months though every 3 or 4 is recomended by some people, i personaly would go with every 4 months

Oh, I'm definitely NOT RECOMMENDING anyone go years without making an oil change... I'm just showing how tough that slant 6 engine is.
