I am looking for a camper shell. as long as I find one from the first generation 89' to 95' it should work as long as it is a club cab right?

 

Probably the dimmer switch, can't say on the camper shell. As long as the bed's the same length as the shell I'd think so.

 

If I read your second question correctly, you are asking if you can put a topper from a full size on your dakota, correct? I'm pretty sure the dakota is narrower then the full size. Unless the Dakotas are classidied by generations as well, then please disreguard this post. And also it doesn't matter if it came off a club cab or not. There are only two bed sizes. short and long. As for you light problem, I am not sure about the Dakota, but I know the full size are natorious for the light switches going bad.
