well the easiest thing to do for well into 300 hp is the magnum conversion. edlebrock makes a head its almost a bolt on thing. but it can get expensive. search mopar muscle magazine online for an article to do it with OEM parts, some nitty gritty work required.

but since you are older and carbed and no emissions youve got it easy. flow is biggest problem with the 318. Get 340 or 360 heads, a 340 cam, anything over 600 cfm is probably useless (maybe even loose power). Then do headers and dual exaust. youll get close to 300 i think.

there is a "How To Hot Rod Small Block Mopar Engines" book which im prolly gonna buy. search it on amazon itll give you tips to build a small block

...or you could stroke it to 390.

Great info, i'll start looking for some 360 heads, would i have to have them port and polished or just a direct swap?

wel problems with 360 heads are lowered compression (youd have to take of about .050) and youll need adjustable rockers, and port matched. You can also shave the 318 heads to get higher compression, i guess, but the valves are smaller.

some people say the 360 head is a waste unless you really plan on dumping gas into the 'teen. go here http://www.geocities.com/alwest_83/318
