440 big block swap
so far, i baught a donor vehicle for my 440, swapped out all parts and iam starting the rebuild process on a bore'd 69 440block, anyways the problem is that i didnt have to tools to take out the big block tranny, driveshaft, and axel from the donor motorhome, and im wondering if i can fit the big block onto a small block 727 i have in my 85 d150? or do i have to order an adapter plate, torque converter? if so a link or any info would be much appreciated.

Never bolted a smallblock to big block, but considered a 518 OD swap, which is basically the same deal, and in researching the swap read a lot of posts on different forums from guys that have.
From what I've read the adapter is pretty straight forward, but requires cutting the ear off the block just below the starter, as the small block starter location is lower. Also requires use of a late small starter.
You didn't say whether you had a 318 or 360, if it's a 360 you'll have to cut the counter weight off the converter.
If it was mine, I'd find a BB 727 and save the headaches. If you find one from behind a 400, cut the weight off the converter on that one also. Some motor home and truck 727s had a short tailshaft. Something to watch out for as more mods are needed to make one fit.
