new guy needs a little help getting started
I am the proud new owner of a 1982 D150. 71k on truck. 318 engine. The guy before me had just put on a new Edelbrock 2 bbl. non-adjustable carb. Not crazy about that-at least not yet. had her in for a tune up, new shocks, replaced valve gaskets, etc. Always seems a little sluggish, unlike my dads that used to burn the tires at takeoff. even shakes and jerks a little the first drive every day. now it refuses to start at least once or twice a day. Always starts in the morning, and always starts back up right after I turn it off, which makes it hard for the mechanic to diagnose. will always eventually start, but maybe after 30 minutes of cranking. we just put on a new ignition module, as the other was melted on the back. didnt help.
I think I have a fuel delivery problem, but what do I know. Not as much as you guys. Any help?

My money is your getting too hot. Check coolant levels and maybe air intake system. My intake hose(seemed like it was made out of rubber hose) rotted out, I replaced with adjustable dryer vent.

I am not really clear on the problem...
1st start of day OK?
restarts OK?
Is the issue after it sits several hours hard to start?
check choke closes and opens by itself .. also after sitting will the accelerator pump squirt? looking for internal leak, when finally starts any evidence of flooding black exhaust.. a vacuum gauge is usefull esp for carb engines... check for vacuum leaks spray suspected areas with carb clean a change in rpm indicates a possable leak... if applicable EGR valve pintle closed? vac gauge will spot this....
this may help determine if starved for fuel...during a no start cond spray some carb or brake clean into carb as someone tries to start...

it was a 2-barrel. just replaced the carb with a rebuilt carter. found out the new holley had needles that were sticking, plus it was one of the non adjustable kind. I didn't like it. Does anyone else run this type of carb? we will see if that cures the problem.
