Default First start of the day

Starts perfect everytime EXCEPT the first start of the day. New carb, tune-up, everything I know to do. It will turn over, even hit once maybe. But it won't start. So I give it shot of starting fluid and it pops right off.

Any ideas on a fix?

Do you either pump the gas, or hold the gas down for a bit and let off and then crank it or not because if you dont do either that could be the problem because it needs to get some gas in there after its been sitting for awhile

agree with above..... first start of day you should press pedal once to set choke, and set high idle.....ALSO check the choke pull off.. once it starts...

another possability is the float bowl is leaking out over night...
Before starting...might try looking at the acccelerator pump discharge after several full throttle manipulations does it spray the same ..... it refills from bowl if bowlis empty spray will deminish

Actualy depending on how long you held it or how many times you pumped it, for me ive got an 87 Dakota and in the manual it says that for the first or cold start to hold it to the floor which i do for like 5 secs or so and I let off and then crank it and most of the time when i crank it, it will start, though i need to clean my carb
Some people also like to pump them though i dont know if it says to in the manuals for those vehicles but i dont know how many times id pump it, my dad told me he started the Dakota one day with just 2 pumps but mine also a V6

On my 87 318 I pump it to the floor once unless it is below freezing, then twice. It is one of the quickest starting vehicles I've ever had.

Default dang it

Well, I tried it this morning. No luck. So engaging the pedal did not do it for me. Give me any other thoughts. Other than the first start this thing cranks up instantly. Thanks.
