Default What is this part?

I don't know what the name of this part is can anyone help me. It's my father in laws truck and I was going to try and fix it for him cause he says that it is the reason for the steering being loose. Thanks in advance

You can grab the rod that comes out of it and wiggle it around.

The big part on the left is the power steering gear.

I think he means the swivel joint (can't remember the correct term)
I usually weld in a pair of yokes with a u-joint.
Or you can get the Borgeson joint. http://www.borgeson.com/PRODUCTS%20H...UCTS-HOME.html

There are two plastic blocks under the cover that snaps in place that may be gone(bad).

The part is called a "steering coupler". You can still get repair kits for it at the dealer, or as others have said, you can get the Borgeson unit.

On my 87 replaced the complete coupler, housing and all. Drilled a small hole in the bottom and put a grease fitting in it. Been around 4 years and it's still tight.
