Buying a 1st gen Dodge Ram, got some ?'s
First, I know this thread is a few months old already, and I appologise for resurecting the dead... however...
I don't have hands-on experience with the 360, however...
I have a 318. it's old. I don't know the full history of it, but it is the original engine in my 93 Ram 150. It's driving the usualy Auto tranny and rear axel.
I averaged 21mpg on a 1600 mile trip from florida to nebraska. At the time, I had 31s on the back and 265s on the front. I now have 255s (I think) and 265s on the back (the back is one size larger than the front). I was getting 18-19 on shorter highway trips. Then I put in some Denso Iridium spark plugs and am getting 21-22 mpg again.
WARNING: What comes next is NOT intended to be used as judgement to break any local or state laws. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS. ALL speed limits MUST be obeyed. With that said, I get better fuel economy with the 318/auto above 75mph, with the pinnacle being about 85. Note: this is jail time if I were to be stopped on the interstate at these speeds, at least a hefty fine and lost of DL.
BUT, the point is, with a bit of patience, and some money, these trucks can acheive 22mpg (and maybe more) I'm going to be working to get my truck up to 25mpg.
