Default 1993 Dodge W150 Engine shut off while driving

I was just plain driving down the street, and it just shut off, what could it be? It is a fuel injected 318.

try checking the ASD. its a relay on the driver fender, should read continuity across two terminals, and 75 (i think) ohms across another.

When you say it shut off...........something like this? You're driving along and then out of the blue it quits**, let it sit for 5 min, half hour or whatever and it fires right up. Runs fine again for 5 min, 5 hrs, maybe 5 wks then does it again. If this sounds familiar, the first thing to look at is that pick up coil in the distributor, the Halls effect sensor. Easily changed, runs about $50.

** when it quits, you should immediately check to see if you have a spark at the coil/plug.

Google "chrysler halls effect sensor" or something similar for further info.

You know your ASD relay is working when you hear the fuel pump run briefly when the ignition switch is turned to the +RUN+ position.

Edit: Could only find testing info for the pickup coils in1987 (carbureted) and older ignition systems.

Having had many problems with them, when my 1989 (TBI) started the same games I immediately looked at the halls effect sensor as the culprit.

there is no hall effects on 93 but there is a camshaft position sensor.

Default 1993 Dodge Dakota - problems

I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota V-8 5.2L that began sputtering like the catilatic (sp) converter was stopped up. I brought it to a muffler shop and had it removed and replaced with a pipe. Immediately after, it backfired and acted like it was flooded. Towed it home and it started right up. The next day I went to start it and it struggled but eventually started. Then it sputtered gurgled, ran rough, made it a block and died. I replaced the roter and distributor cap. Thought that would work, so I started it and before I made it out the driveway it died again. I started it this morning it ran fine for a little while then died again. I read somewhere on this site it might be the coil. Anyone with this particular engine with the possible solution? By the way the fuel pump and fuel filter have been changed recently.

Default 1st gen ram

I know this is an old thread but, I bought my 93 Ram W150 New and one day
I was driving and it just shut off like you turned the key off.
after many hours and lots of cash I ran through wire harness on driver side, pulled out the heavy Yellow wire.. added a splice with a 30 amp fuse link and the truck started right up.. This incident happened in 1997 here it is 2014 and not another problem of just shutting off!
