hey guys, you helped me alot, and solved my cooling problem, now I have a problem starting my ram. Its a 81 d150 slant 6 custom. It has a holley 1945 carb. It will turn over all day but wont start. If i pour a little gas in the carb, it will start. I have looked at vaccum lines and they all seem connected.

Maybe a carb rebuilt? Are they easy? Thanks

 

the carburator on the slant 6 where know to have that prolem. i forget what the problem is exactly but i think it had something to do with the float. i think rebuilding it will fix the problem.

 

A) Take a look at the choke, does it slam shut when you open the throttle? (when cold)

B) Look down the carburetor's throat and yank open the throttle. See any gas squirting into the throat? Could be the accelerator pump is worn or the ball check in the bottom isn't there.

 

well first check for gas to the carb (like lilredex suggests, or unscrew the line and turn it over and see if gas comes out).

once you rule that out then mess with the carb. a sticking float is obvious once you get it apart. but it could also not be "set" properly, so it even though it moves freely it may be be in the wrong position.
