Default How to remove ignition switch

Hi all,
I'm trying to remove the ignition switch on my 1975 w200. I have the steering wheel, horn assembly, blinker switch and all the other stuff off, but I can't get the column cover off. There's a bearing on the shaft that is preventing me from sliding the column cover off the end of the the steering shaft. How the heck do I remove that thing??? I can get the cover to spin around 180* and pop out about 1/2in, but I can't get it off. I'm getting very frustrated, this is the only thing that's keeping me from starting her up after 12 years in storage. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I am not positive on this but I believe you may have to unbolt and lower the steering column. Then you should be able to slide the cover toward the engine compartment and gain access to the switch.

Thanks for the reply. We figured it out, we just needed to get a little mean with it. After a little prying with various screwdrivers, the bearing popped right out.

We got her to fire up for about a second. All she does is rev way up for a second and then die. But it's a start!
