Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

As the title says, what is your MPG, your motor and any suggestions for a better MPG.

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

6-8 in town if I rod the snot out of it, 8-10 if not, 10-12 highway. 12 if I cruise at about 60 (doesn't happen much).

360, a727, 4.10s, 35x12.50s, cam, carb, intake, headers, 3" out. No cats from the factory.

Better mileage? higher air pressure in the tires, softer foot pressure on the gas.

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

11-12 in mostly town. haven't had it on the highway since modifications. almost 14 mpg on highway before any changes...*= changes

1990 3/4 ton, 4x4, 360 stock, throttle body, *new air cleaner, 4 speed, 4.10s, * 35x12.50s, *exhaust 3 inch straight pipe single, high flow cat

The 85 gets 8-12 depnding on how I drive and it gets 15-17 on the highway, 410 sure grip with a 833 gets about 2500 rpm at 70 so I'm happy.
360 30 over kb pistons molly rings with 10.3/4 to 1 comp.

I have a 1988 dodge ram with a TB and a 318, i put on a larger air filter, an edelbrock performer and headers, and it took me from about 16 to 18mpg, and sometimes on the highway i get about 20... Its a truck though, I bought it to be a truck, not a cruiser, I am going to pull the computer soon and put on a 4bbl carb, so thats all going to go away.

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

1988 B250, I can get about 20-25 miles on highway speed, with load on the machine about 15-18 depending on how heavy the load is. I bought this for a puller and frankly im surprised it's so cheap to drive :)

My '82 Dodge D150 P/U is getting around 10 MPG right now (Slant 6, 225 cu. in., 3.7L), but then again, I'm missing a part or two that may help with that. Since it's a pickup, my dad always told me to drop the tailgate when I'm going to drive for a bit, cuz that's s'pose to help with the gas mileage.

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

8 mpg City, 11 mpg Highway (If My Mom Drives It), 6 mpg When I Hot Rod The Snot Out Of It (Which Always Happens)

318 c.i.d. V8

Not always - my '03 ranger (3.0 v-6, 5 spd man.) was driven round trip 90+ miles a day on the interstate for a year and a half. Dropping the tailgate/taking it off actually made it WORSE!! Got around 19 with it off, can get 22 with it on. Go figure...

My '89 Ram gets 16 at 70mph, about 18 at 55mph. Abysmal in town (especially with the air on). Has 2.7's in the rear. No mods other than true dual 18" glasspacks and K&N. It'll fly - beaten several 350 chevys from 55 on, but from dead stop a 4020 John Deere can smoke it HA HA

its not true tho, they did a deal on myth busters that proved the theory wrong. you get worse mileage w/ the tailgate open cuz the friction of the air going over the entire bed rather then the whirlwind of air the bed makes.

about 18 in the city 22 on the highway, with 170 horsepower and 400 LB FT! all stock cummins, hopefully after a K&N it'll bump it up a bit.

With my stock 85 D150 Ram(318, 3 speed a904) I get 10mpg city(driving hard) and 14mpg hwy. I do have a rebuilt longblock 318, but its all stock with exception of the k&n filter and ignition(wires, plugs, mopar performance cap and dist).

Note: I am probably the only one running stock hubcaps and tires. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/570246/2

With the new TCI transmission and non-lockup torque converter, the mileage has actually dropped. In my GVX, my Mom drove it one day and I got in it on the next day. When I left home, the computer said the avg. was 25 mpg. I drove 10 miles, and it dropped to 16.7 mpg. It made me wonder how I still have a clean driving record.

Hi All

Just bought my 84 Ram 100. a 318 rebuilt motor with racing cams (2BBL Carb) and a little over 1000 miles. 4 speed manual trans , dual 3" pipe with glass packs and Hoosier tires. No polution equiptment nor cat what so ever. Red with bench, radio, crank window and that is about it.
I got an average of 9.8 which included town and highway.

Roger

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

Had wiring issues and she is back up!!!
During the fix put on new distributer, wires and Hi pro coil.
Very sweet truck for what i paid for it. Needs rear brakes redone and parking brakes. Only cost me 1500. I will have put in 300. more and it whould be perfect.
very satisfied. Same carb as my 83 AMC Eagle.
Did I say body was re-done and painted a year ago...no holes nor rust. New exhaust, new clutch on the manual OD transmission, I guess I said that already.
My gas milage figgures may not be that accurate as they are not stock sizes and my odometer may be off..

Roger

1992 Dodge Ram 150 LE with the 5.2L 318 motor. I am currently getting 22-25 on the highway and not much less than that in town.

rogertc1 09-16-2006 07:50 PM

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

Well with the Holley carb and better air flow system I gained a whopping 2 MPG average for my 1984 Ram, 318 to....12MPG average.

I've got an '89 ¾ ton 4x4 with a stock 360. It's used for camping with a 10½' camper on it. Last trip to the Uinta Mountains I got 6mpg. Man, would I love a new cummins diesel.

topsites 01-08-2007 04:11 AM

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

I'd say consistent maintenance and a feather light throttle foot are the key.

The '86 D-250 318 2bbl got 14-15mpg while towing a 6x12 landscaping trailer around the county.
That's with Accel HP (HighPerformance) Cap and Rotor, double platinum plugs, Taylor 8mm HP wires, a Flamethrower coil, and a 14-inch HP air filter.
Oh, oil change every 3k, trans fluid and filter every 10k, fuel filter twice in 50k, pcv valve and breather cap twice also.
Greased wheel bearings once, lubed all the zerks at least once (maybe twice), flush and fill radiator once.
Keep all 4 tyres filled to the Max. psi printed (on my truck, 50psi).
Mythbusters or not: Replaced tailgate with a rubber mesh one.
Always run Premium 93 octane namebrand (BP or Texaco).
And I take it real light on the throttle, drive like granpa.

Dunno on the '95 with the 360 yet, too early to tell (just got it), thou I expect much of the same (14-15mpg with trailer) since it's running 10w-30 Synthetic racing blend and has multiport EFI (+ same mods as the '86).

Only thing I miss is dual exhaust and racing headers, but then I'd need dual cats (so, expensive).

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

I get about 8 on the interstate. However i do know that if you take a stock 318 and rebuild it to stock specs except drop in an r.v. cam 4brrl card about 650 cfm with vacuum secondarys and put a dual plane intake you can almost double your mileage. I've done it. Dodge always has put to small ofn a carb on their motors.

Im getting about 11 or 12 according to what I am at now...

318 4x4 with an electric fan. The only thing is it isnt idling correctly, I think after I put a few air charge temp sensor in it will be getting a little better gas milage.

RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

I get about 15mpg on the highway. I have a 1990 Ram with the 3.9L TBI. I figured that my mpg should be better since I have such a small engine and TBI, but I have only had the truck for a few months and I am working on getting better gas mileage. I have already done the normal tune up and saw a little improvement from that. And of course I make sure that I keep proper pressure in my tires.
