Default '90 D150 318 Power Steering Failure

I just bought this truck... The salesman said that those year trucks sometimes didn't have Power Steering.... RIGHT Any way after getting it home I filled the PS reservoir, and the fluid was tossed all over the engine bay....
OK... bad pump? lines/steering box, not sure yet... Question: Has anyone here had to do a rebuild like this, and what can I expect if I try this myself, or more likely, what would a shop charge to do a replacement of the above components? I don't have a Chiltons labor guide, so I want to know what amount of time/labor is reasonable... Thanks,

Brian

My pump is still original. I have replaced the lines due to rusted fittings that I twisted off when I replaced my steering box. I got a rebuilt box from advance that lasted 2 months. They replaced that box for free (we won't talk about my added labor) and that was 5 years ago. The first box replacement took me 4 hours and a lot of cussing. The second box replacement took about an hour. Be sure you have a puller available for the pitman arm and center up the steering before you start if the box needs to be changed.

you should realy try to locate where the power steering fluid is leeking from.it sound like your power steering pump is still working if it was shooting power steering fluid everywhere. till you can locate the leaks it would probably be wise to remove the power steering belt. you could try pouring some 10w30 oil into the PS reservoir and hope its thick enough to not leek. i use 10w30 in my truck.
