Black smoke out of tailpipe
Issue Solved.
Idle was a little high so it was throwing my timing off. I lowered the idle speed to what sounded about 500 rpm and the timing was perfect at 12 degrees.
The timing advance worked as well, SO I was really getting pissed off not finding a problem.
I then tore apart the carb and found a few mil's of rust crap/dust in the bottom of the bowl. I cleaned all that crap out, sprayed carb cleaner in EVERY hole on the carb. After cleaning the carb and checking all the functions of the accelerator pump, jets, springs, and everything else I went ahead and reassembled it. ( lots of small parts, lol )
I adjusted the mixture screws all the way in and and two turns out each.
Started the truck and it was still running like crap.
I rechecked the needle valve on the front of the carb and more crap was clogging the valve causing the float to stay open and gas flow out the vent tube of the carb.
I was stumped so I took off the fuel filter and it was CLEAN?!?!
Turns out that the 2 foot piece of gas line from the fuel filter to the carb was filled with rusty crap! So after replacing that fuel line I tried starting it again and STILL had the problem!
At this point I am getting ready to just take it to a shop, when I decided to call one of my dads buddies. ( big car nut )
I explain to him my symptoms and everything I have done thus far.
He tells me to recheck my spark plugs because it sounds like a fouled plug to him. I tell him that I just replaced them under 3 hours of driving ago. But for kicks I checked them and guess what. THE DANG NEW PLUGS THAT I JUST INSTALLED WHERE COMPLETELY BLACK AND CHARD!
I put another set of new plugs into the car, dumped sea foam into the oil, started the truck and it purred like a kitten! I pour like half a can of sea foam into the carb with it running and let it run for 15 min.
Came back outside and it was still perfect!!!!!
Sigh of relief!
So anyway, long story short it appears to be finally running smooth and correct. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions.
I guess we will just have to see if these plugs last a little longer than 3 hours of idle time, lol.
