Default Need help going from /6 to v8

I just bought a 1987 d150 with a 225 slant 6 and a 3 speed auto trans. I have a magnum 318 from a 1997 ram 1500 sitting in my garage, its fully rebuild and ready to go, I also have the wiring harness and comp. for the engine. I need to know if anyone can tell me what trans. I have and if the engine will bolt up to it. I bought the truck from a little old lady, the int. is like new and only has very minor body damage, so I don't mind putting alot of work into this truck to make it just the way I want it.

to put the engine from an 97 would take an exteme amount of rewiring. i don't think the transmition would bolt up to a v8. i would keep the /6 unless there was seriusly wrong with it.

Yah I sold my new 5.9 Magnum setup just because it would have been a nightmare to get it in there wired up right.

Stick to a carb motor or buy a 1991-1993 Ram as those were factory with the Magnum motor (I believe at least haha)

I have the wiring figured out, I just can't find much info on the trans. I think I'm going to change the trans. anyway because now I want to go with a 4X4 setup, and I know everyone will say "save yourself the trouble and buy one with 4wd" but I like the challange and the fact that I can make it as big as I want, and the body/frame on this truck is super nice.

I just got back from picking the truck up and I can tell just by looking at the trans that it will only fit the slant six, but it looks like the front of the trans. (bell housing) is removable, and can be changed out for a v-8 bell housing.
