Default Tires and gearing.

I just ordered a new set of 35" Wrangler MT/R's and now I'm picking out my ring and pinion gear set for both axles, since I'm almost certain that I'll need to re-gear my truck. After some searches, I'm seeing that 4.56 gears are recommended for 35" tires on the 727. Just double checking to make sure. This will be my weekend fun truck, and I'm sure I'll get it dirty some times, but it'll mainly be on the road.

'87 W150 727 Trans, Dana 44's, 318cid

Also, I'll be regularly taking it to highway speeds 55-75mph

A lot will depend on the tire/gear combo you have now and how happy you are with it. Tire size calculators will tell you how much you are changing from the current tire size to the new tires then decide if you want to stay comparable with where you are now or if you want to go lower overall in the new tire/gear setup. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Well according to http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm 4.56 gears should do just fine with 35" tires. I've found a guy who will change them for me for $300 for both axles, I just bring the ring and pinions. Now my question is do I just need new ring and pinions, or would I need a new carrier as well?

The ring and pinions that I'm looking at are Motive Gear from Summitracing and they are $165 and $200 for both. Should I be looking somewhere else for cheaper/better gears?
