Default electronic vs mechanical speedo

i haven't had a working speedo since i did my engine swap. i currently have everything setup so i can use the mechanical speedo but i would have to do alot of wiring. i try hooking up the oil pressure gauge to test if it would work and it does not seem to be working right. all the gauges on my old gauge cluster worked good but i would have to reinstall the computer somehow to make the speedo work. i'm not sure what to do. both ways there is going to be alot of wiring that is going insanely stupid. any idea's?

Other than gauge lights I don't understand where a mechanical speedometer uses wiring so that should work. If the oil gauge you are using is matched to the sender it should work properly if you have the correct voltage. Dodge gauges do not use 12 volts. The voltage used in our computerized truck gauges is controlled by the computer so you will have to add a transistor. This might help some.

i got the gauge cluster from my 91 which everything works execept for the speedo. i also got a gauge cluster from an 86 and the only thing that i can get to work on it is the speedo. the oil gauge seems like it is getting too much power and going all the way to the other side. i tried the volatge gauge and it didn't move at all. all the sensors on the engine and wiring harness under the hood is from a 87 B250. my digital multi meter has been MIA for about 3 months so i have been really lost when it comes to electrical.

In 1991 the dash wiring harness was changed and is not compatible with earlier years. You have chosen to go with no computer and a carb. You must change the dash wiring harness and gauge cluster to match the earlier design and use sensors/senders that are compatible with the earlier year gauge cluster. I don't envy the job in front of you. Good luck.

hmmm. the truck i got the gauge cluster out of got scrapped about a month ago because the price of scrap has been high. i didn't even have a chance to get a few other parts off of it. i thought the sensors should be compatible with the gauge cluster because there was only 1 year difference and they were both carburated engines. i think i might try to get the electric speedo to work first. if i can't get it to work mabe i will have to cut the electric speedo out and replace it with the mechanical one. ether way i think i'm faceing an electrical nightmare. thanks for all the help SEAL.
