Default 88 dodge ram 318 w/ tbi running rich

Looked down the throat of the throttle body at idle....butterfly valves appear to be wet all the time. Hard for me to tell what the spray pattern of the injectors looks like. White smoke out the tail pipe all the time. Any thoughts on how to lean this thing out a bit?? Have replaced: o2 sensor and coolant temp sensor. Haven't checked the EGR yet. On that topic - is it recommended to disconnect the EGR (permanently) or not??

Why do you say it is running rich?
White smoke is not good, often meaning coolant in the combustion chamber.

There is no adjustment for lean/rich that you can make. Rich running yields black smoke not white.
Have you checked for codes?
You need the EGR to reduce combustion chamber temperatures. Without the EGR you will experience detonation/ping that will eventually destroy the engine.

With it running the butterflies will always be wet since fuel is spraying on them. Sounds more like you have an issue with burning coolant to get white smoke.
Are you loosing coolant? Pull off the oil fill cap is it covered with "chocolate milk"?

No chocolate milk. I am going to attribute the current smoke to oil burning off that leaks in from the valve seals - it does go away after the vehicle is run for a while. Thanks for all the input!!!

could still be water in the gas. water gets in the gas tanks at the gas stations sometimes.
