Oil Filter

Hey guys,I am new to having a Dodge and have a question.I was looking at oil filters for a 5.2 in a 93 Ram truck and noticed that some have bypass valves in them and some dont.Do I need a filter with the bypass or is the valve built into the motors oil system.
