Replacing the heater
Hello
Have anyone replaced the heater core and are able to give some hints and instructions on how to do it?
My heater leaks coolant and the smell is not something to wish for.
The truck in question is a 1989 W250 with Cummins and AC.

I just replaced mine and it wasn't as bad as I heard it was. The bad part is the expense of draining and refilling the A/C if you can find R-12 refrigerant at all. My Chilton manual (#8166) had very good instructions that were totally accurate about this procedure.
Thank you for your reply.
My AC is not working, and I have no intention to make work either. Why do you have to refill the AC when replacing the heater core? There is coolant running in the core, so please explain :-)
This manual of yours, is it accessible on the net? Or maybe you can email me the pages needed?

The heater box that contains the heater core also contains the A/C evaporator and both must be disconnected from their respective systems to remove the heater box.
This information is available on line for a price. If you private message me your e-mail address I will try to e-mail you the info you need. I say try because I just got a scanner and have not tried to e-mail any images yet.
