Rear End Q's
Hey guys new to this forum. Just seeing if anybody knows what the standard rearend would be in a mid 80's 1/2 ton 4x4 truck long box. Or on a mid 80's ramcharger. I'm looking for a Dana 60 for my drag car my father has a ton of old trucks from the mid 80's that no longer run but they have good rearends but unfortunately he cant remember and the tags or so rusty i cant make anything out. So if anyone out there knows if there's a chance that they might have one or if I'm just waisting my time? thanks guys
D60 was the 200 series (D200, D250, W250, etc). D70 was definitely the 300 series duallies... not sure if it was also in the non-duallies or if those were D60's. The .5 tons (100 series) were much smaller rears.
Yep, If you was going to use one out of a truck, you would have to change it from a "full floater" style.
You can get an idea of the ratio on a single trac rear by, holding one tire still. Then put a referrence mark on the other tire. Put a mark on the pinion. Then, turn the tire ONE revolution, while counting the times the pinion turns.
Example; If the pinion turns 3 and half times to one tire revolution. Then that would be a 3.55 to 1 ratio (in a mopar) Gets you in the ball park.
You can also pull the pan and most of the time, the ratio is stamped on the ring gear.
3.23s was pretty standard in 1/2 tons
3.55s was fairly standard in 3/4 tons
BUT, Ihave seen 4.11s in camper specials thou.

the 9 1/4 can put up with some abuse, had one in my 75 W150,which had an earlier,"healthy" 440,35 in tires,4.10 gears, and stood up to lots of off road romps, burn outs on the street without a whimper for 4 years while i had it.
