questions about 87 dodge ram w150
So I just bought a ram w150 for $1700 and was wondering if the 318s in that year were good motors or not because i had a carburated one in my 91 and it sucked it had a single barrel carb and when i hit fourth gear i lost speed going up hills but the truck im buying this weekend has a two barrel holley carb? and it has a four inch lift with 36" super swampers on it i was just wondering if it was good and ill be posting pics of it soon thank you!!
I have a 87 D 100 with the 318 with 172000 miles on it. Not a power house but it does OK. Don't have add oil between changes of 3000 to 5000 mile changes.
With 36 inch tires if the gears haven't been changed it probably won't pull the hat off your head.

Well. Your 1991 came with a 2 barrel throttle body with fuel injection, and since it didn't have that when you owned it, we don't have much to compare the 1987 to for you. But if both trucks were totally stock, the 1991 would have had 30 more horses.
I owned an 87 W150 for years. 318 with the 2280 Holley 2bbl, 3 speed 727 LoadFlite tranny. Sure wasn't a muscle car but I got respectable gas mileage, ran like a top and it would grunt when i needed it to. Had 213,000 miles when I sold it a couple years ago. It's still on the road!
all 318's are good the problem is the heads and compression, but most were ment for low end torque and economy. mine gets 17-20 mpg with my 110L tank. if you want powrhouse get a 360... they have the most potential to make power.
