Electrical Problems
A few weeks ago I got stranded when my ground went bad. I had to jump on the POS and frame, then reground it when I got home, it ran fine for a month. I swapped the car stereo for an aftermarket one a week ago. This including hooking up the CONSTANT wire, before I had to turn it on and off manually after turning the key. Yesterday I was driving to work and my dash lights, headlights got dim. Turn signals did not work, power windows did not roll down, wipers were SLOW. Once I cut it off, it would not start. It had enough power that lights were bright when turned on but not enough cranking power. Any ideas?
I would check the charging circuit as the alternator should be able to keep up with any other problem as long as the truck is running.
Once the battery is charged check the voltage across the battery terminals (12 volts). Start the engine and test again (14-15 volts). Turn on the headlights while reading the voltage, the voltage should drop and then come back up if the charging system is working correctly.
You say the ground went bad and you had to reground it. Is that the ground where it connects to the engine or the frame or the battery?
