Default Slant 6 to 340 Engine Swap Questions

Hello All

Getting ready to begin a swap from a slant 6 to a 1970 340. Don't worry the slant will be going to a good home and getting rebuilt

-Will 360 motor mounts work for a 340? It will be much cheaper and convenient for me if I can use 360 motor mounts.

-As far as the oil pan goes, from what I understand you have to switch it out if I was swapping to a 360. Does anyone know if the stock oil pan will or will not sit flush when putting in a 340? I assume not, but figured I'd ask.

-Anything I should be concious of ignition related?

-I am going to need to pick up some headers still. Going to go cheap for now an then buy some nice ones within a year. Any recommendations for now?

-Any other ideas and tips will be appreciated.

Thanks

Anyone know where I might be able to find some of the answers to my questions above? Motor mount question is my most urgent.

360 truck mounts will work. the oil pan is a different story. you'll need a 318 truck pan. 360 pan is bigger where it fits around the rear main cap. Unless you don't know, the tranny will have to be swapped also. the main thing with this is, you gotta make sure your torque converter is for an internally balanced engine, a 318 one will work. 360s are externally balanced. Ignition ain't no biggy, any electronic distributor from a 318 or 360 will work.

I didn't see the pic at first, looks like you're goin 4-speed! No worries.

I've seen car panned engines in rams, it will fit, but the pan sure is close to the cross member. new rubber mounts would be a must. Look through the summit catalog for the headers. You'll want these before you even think about droppin it in. and do yourself a favor and put that starter on now. cause you'll have to un-bolt the drivers side header to install it..

hope this helps, can't wait to see it finished!! good luck

well there are several things you need to know. the pan. but make sure it is from a pickup. van oil pans won't fit the sump is on the wrong end. ingition you might need to get a ingition box for a v-8? what year of truck are you putting this into?
