Default 88 D100 Starter Issue

The fuel pump in my 88 D100 has gone out, and I'll be replacing it within a week. The only problem is, every replacement fuel pump I've looked at doesn't have this black bag looking thing attached to the bottom of it like mine does. I was wondering if one of you guys could tell me what that bag thing is and why replacement fuel pumps don't have it. Picture is of my fuel pump.

Starter? It looks like a fuel pump. The bag is called a filter sock and it is sold separately.
