79 3/4ton fulltime help

Question 79 3/4ton fulltime help

hi have a 79 3/4 ton with the np 203 case at , 360 engine myers 8 ft plow , have seen a parttime lock out hub kit for 1/2 tons , is there one for the 3/4 , or any way to make it partime , gas mileage is 10.3 per gallon empty or loaded , turing all that front hardware has to hurt mileage some dana 44 front dana 60 rear with 4.10 and posi in rear thanks for any input wv ram

since nobody else chimed in. I'll try'n help. your truck should have the full-time front axle. meaning a non-floating unit. this would require you to change spindle ends and axles, so that you can have an un-lockable front-rear.

Next you'll have to swap out the np 203 case for a 208 or preferable a 205. if not you'll have to run the 203 in the locked position. Which means you're still turnin the axles.

Best bet would be, find a doner truck that has all the parts. It was right around '80 '81 they changed to the np 208 and full-floater front axle. Anything up to 88 should work fine.

By the way, with a 318, 3.90s, 727 in my 89 d250 . . . it gets 12 mpg.

Check out the sticky on gas mileage. With the big 4.10s and a sail on the front, 10mpg is a miracle. Especially with fulltime 4x4.

The np203 is the same for the 1/2 and 3/4 trucks. I put one in my 77 dodge and its an easy install.
