purchased rebuilt 360 yesterday
Pro and con:
Starting out with 5 year old gaskets should be OK but it is so much easier to change them just before you install it. Only the rebuilder knows what quality gaskets he used. If you take it apart you might be able to see what quality gaskets he used and that might tell you the quality of the other parts/workmanship in the engine. $150.00 for a rebuilt 360 is extremely cheap even if you change the gaskets. Would I replace them? Probably.

valve covers on trucks that are used on the regular bases start to leak after so long. if an engine is not used for a long time the gaskets can start to dry out and start leak. both of my valve cover gaskets on my 81 leak but from the looks of it the truck had sat a long time before i bought it. i would definitely replace that type of stuff while it is out of the truck. it is so much easier. no spark plug wires or wiring harness to get in your way.
