Default Engine belts for non a/c

Okay well the compressor on my 86 d150 2wd is busted and i dont really care. i was planning on removing that and the lines in the summer. anyways i got to looking at the belts because i was gonna order some for non ac equipted trucks and the belts look like they might rub. i had the local napa guy look at it and he was also concerned that the belts might rub and cut. was their any difference on the front setup for trucks running factory ac vs non ac? so can i remove the compressor and install the belt for a non ac and not have any rubbing? my d150 also has power steering in case your wondering.

The brackets that mount the alternator and the A/C are different than the alternator without A/C brackets. The belts will rub. You will have to head for the junk yard to get non A/C brackets. The power steering will not be effected.

you should be able to run it with 1 belt but not 2. on the trucks without a/c the alternator bracket has a pulley where the a/c pulley would be.

From what I have been able to figure out, at least with the TBI trucks, that idler pulley in wolf's pic bolts right in where the AC compressor would go. I got a pulley from the junkyard a few weeks ago to do the conversion myself. Now I just have to wait until its above freezing again. Not sure if it matters, but if memory serves, I got the pulley from a v6 dakota. Holding the pulley up to my truck, they do seem to match.

the bracket in the picture is from my the 3.9 i had. it bolted right onto my 318 but i think i bent it or i missed something because when i installed it the belt was not lining up perfect and would squeal. you can see there is no belt on the a/c pulley but you can see the belt on the alternator.

there i pretty much no after market parts for these trucks. you will most likely have to get the parts off a truck at a junkyard or you could just try running the belt from the bottom pulley to the alternator. you should be able to get 1 belt on there and working without rubbing.
