Engine swap balancing question
Ok so i am going from a 318 to a 360 in my 81 power ram and wanted some clarification on the whole internal to external balancing thing. The engine i am buying is off an auto and i have a standard so i will need to put on a flywheel instead of the flexplate. Will it automatically be balanced when i throw a 360 flywheel on there or do i have to take it in and have them balance it.
Thanks

i don't know if this helps but Ive done a 318 to 360 swap.....but i had an automatic...727...and i had to have balance weights welded on my torque converter to have the engine properly balanced that being said the place i got the converter from just knew where to weld them on....like its a standard spot. that being said as long as the flywheel were from a 360 car/truck it should work.
You need a 360 flyweel or have you 318 balanced by some one that knows how.
The 440s with cast cranks are external balanced too. Can't remember if there's more mopar engines that way.
A lot of guys swapping 454 and 400sb chebbys got a bad vib when thay fired um up.
The 428 Ford was external too.
I know this is a Dodge fourm but you mite want to help a poor misguided friend with a chubby. Or not !
