Replacing Fuel Pressure Regulator
1993 Dodge Ram D150 5.9L 2WD Automatic
I tried searching this topic and did not find anything about it. I am needing to replace my fuel pressure regulator and I read in the Haynes manual that it is on top of the fuel pump. I looked and there is was instead of being mounted on the fuel rail like a normal vehicle. There is about an inch or more of clearance above the regulator till I hit the bed. Do you think it would be possible to pull it up and out at an angle? I really do not feel like dropping the fuel tank just for something this simple.

You should be able to loosen the front tank strap to give it some play and drop the back of the tank quite a bit on those long bolts without completely taking the tank off. Just be sure to undo the fuel lines and filler tube. Gonna need some WD40 or similar for those bolts also. I used an adjustable jack stand with a block of wood and emptied the tank pretty much and was able to lift and lower it. It'd be a good time to change the rubber fuel lines out as well.
the tank is not held up by straps on the newer first gen trucks. they sit on a platform and are strapped to the platform or at least that is the way it was on my 91. if you don't want to drop the tank you could take the box off. one of the previous owners of my truck cut a hole in the bed of the box to access the top of the sending unit.
