here goes.
Fill tank.
Write down milage.
Drive truck.
Fill tank.
Miles driven diveded by gallons to fill truck=MPG
Also watch the mile markers to make sure the odemeter is reading right.
Guys may tell you thier getting 20mpg with this truck.
Their ether very lucky, lying or to stupid to do the math right.
You may do better than 10 but don't bank on it.
Check out the MPG sticky too. If its not tuned up well, expect far less. The best you can REALISTICALLY hope for is probably 12-14. Again, I agree that the guys claiming close to 20mpg from any gasser 3/4 are full of it.
I just got one from my brother I've wanted since he got it. It's roughly 10mpg. It was sitting at my brother's place in East Salt Lake City, Utah and I drove it out to Tooele, Utah (roughly 54 miles). It had 1/4 tank in it before we left. We put $20 in at the gas station by his place and that put it to half. When we got to our place in Tooele the gas gauge showed 1/4 tank again. They're beasts on gas but also beasts on power. I've never been happier to have this truck though, regardless of the mpg.
I had a 73 1/2 ton with the BB and I loved it. 10 to 13 MPG seems about right for fuel mileage depending on tires, gearing etc. but this will be about the same loaded or empty so there is a trade off with having the Big Blocks. Remember that going bigger on tires throws your speedometer off so the miles traveled are also off, a GPS unit (if you have one) might be better for figuring mileage if the tires aren't stock size. One thing that helped me significantly was I put a thermo-quad carb (any spread bore with smaller primaries should help) on mine and got 1.5 to 2 MPG improvement in economy with no noticeable loss of performance.
Good luck and enjoy it.
