Default 727 auto to 5 speed

so my 86 dodge has a 3 speed 727 trans...nothing wrong with it....but i do prefer a 5 speed...or a 4 speed auto at least

what 5 speed trans/auto 4 speeds will work for my truck

that 3 speed auto is getting old down the highway

I think just about any manual that ever bolted to a 318 will work. For a auto with overdrive, anything from a 1st or 2nd gen ram will work, but you'll need to swap computers, or find a standalone controller. (Gerehead8 mentioned that here https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ns-i-have.html) I suggest you read that thread. Lots of good trans info.
