. As for being irritated you're not alone. I've been fighting my truck for a month now!
Try bypassing your resistor temporarily giving your coil the full 12v and see if that makes a difference. 5.88v is too low for a hot enough spark so the spark could be a little too weak causing the no-start issue you're having.
