Question 440 swap in a 1990 power ram

hey everyone my truck is getting quite a few miles on it. and i was thinking of putting a bigger motor in it. i found a 73 440 for 300 bucks. i thought go big or go home right. so i was wondering how i would go along in doing a engine swap. and i know the tranny and transfer in the truck right now wont bolt up to the 440. so what would be a good tranny transfer combo for pulling heavy loads. if i could get a manual tranny that would be great. and i was kind of hoping to get decent mileage with it.

"and i was kind of hoping to get decent mileage with it." You are kidding, right.

If I wanted the best for heavy loads with a gas engine I would get a 727 with a NP 205 case. If you want the best overall get a diesel setup.

a 360 is a much better way to go than a 440. 360 will pretty much bolt right in.... i found a 440 for my 1990 ram, but after looking at the pros and cons of trying to fit and rebuild a 440....i went the 360 route...if you have a 904 keep it they're a good tranny. also seeing as how you want decent mileage, get rid of the feul injection... the holley units of 1990 or pieces of garbage
