Default 360 heads and 4bbl intake on a 318?

I have an 87 d150 with the 318 and a 2bbl holley carb. It's currently at the shop getting the electronic spark adv. crap ripped out and swapped to standard ignition system. I'm looking to get a little better power and fuel economy out of it if at all possible. When I was at the junkyard getting the wiring for the ign module, I ran across what appears to be a 360 in a 70's power wagon with a factory 4bbl intake. The carb will definitely need to be rebuilt or a new carb bought, but I'm more interested in the intake.
My questions are-- Can I use just the intake on the 318 or would I have to get the heads too?
If I were to get both the heads and intake what kind of power gains would I be likely to see?
Would I need to change the cam as well?
Could I expect any fuel mileage increase?
And finally-- Would it even be worth doing?

with the 360 heads on a 318,you probably loose compression. i rebuilt an 87 d150 318 a few years back, they have swirl port heads wich are more fuel efficient than the the older 318 or 360 heads, but i did a 5 angle valve job on them, and used a 340 cam + bored it .030 over. had lots of power but gas mi. was not great, cause i always had my foot into it. its all up to what you want power or gas mi. there are so many combanations for these engines. do get all the info you could before you do anything.
you dont want to build up a engine with miss matched parts, will end up with a slug that does no go well, and burns a lot of gas. good luck

Can I just use the 4bbl intake and carb from the 360? I know a 4bbl will do better on gas than a 2bbl if you keep your foot out of it (when possible). I mostly just want some extra bottom end torque for towing and heavy loads and a little better mpg's when unloaded.

i believe you can use the 360 intake,or any dual plane intake will give you some low end torq. single plane intake will only help mid and top end pull.
good luck

i don't think that 4 barrel carb will give you that extra low end torque you want. from the sounds of it you will want something along the lines of an RV cam.

I'd love to get an rv cam for it, but I just can't afford that right now. I can get the intake and carb for under $100 and my cousin can rebuild the carb. I just wasn't sure if it would make any difference. I mostly just want to get rid of that crap electronic Holley that came with the lean burn system. I'd love to get an old Carter, but I can get that 4bbl intake and carb cheaper than just a new carb. I just wasn't sure if it would be worth doing.

Well crap. It was a good idea while it lasted, anyway. Looks like I need to start lookin for an old Carter. My cousin thinks he has one, but he's not sure if it's any good.

The intake will bolt right onto the 318 heads, I did this exact same thing to my 2bbl 318 ramcharger using the 4bbl intake and carb (Qjet) off of my 4bbl 360, the only thing you will have to do is take the transmission kick down brackets from the 360 engine as well, and possibly the bracket where your throttle cable mounts to your engine as some brackets have the throttle cable mount on the kickdown bracket and some have a separate mount.

I hope so since I just found out my carb as well as the one my cousin has are both junk. This seems like it might be my only option to get this truck going. At least the intake since 4bbl carbs are a lot cheaper and easier to find than good Mopar 2bbls
