Well I put the new resistor on and still does the same thing. I bypassed the res giving the coil the full 12v and it fired up and purred like a kitten! I'm starting to wonder if Advance has given me the wrong resistor (a mallory 700)? Can I get a canister type res from a ford or GM to do the same job?

I went and got a .8ohm res and still only have 2.2v at the coil. Can I just bypass the res for good and run it like that? How long would my coil last getting the full 12v?

Well no one could get me a res with less than 0.8ohm so I could use the stock coil. I just gave up and got an Accel Super Stock coil and fed it the full 12v. The truck is running great now and I should have a boost in power and fuel econ too, so double bonus!
