Default 91 D250 Idle issues and more..

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've been on here, the last time was with my 91 Ramcharger. Awesome truck, but with lots of problems, but I ended up trading it for a 92 D250 2wd, w/ 5.9 gas motor. But lately I've been having some issues with it.

1. The truck started having an idle issue, as in it wouldn't idle. If you came to a stop, it would either try to cut off, or it would rev up, where you would really have to lay on the brakes to keep from taking off. Using GPS I tracked it, and I would be rolling 28mph "idling". I have replaced the Idle Control Motor, which has kept it from the super high idle, now it just wants to cut off all the time. Ideas?

2. Intermittent turn signals not working. You hit the switch and the signal comes on but doesn't blink. Is the the turn signal switch?

3. Speedometer and Odometer doesn't work. Already tried the speed sensor on the tranny, and ordered the ABS speed sensor for the rear axle, but this truck doesn't have ABS. (Or at least I haven't found out where the sensor goes) Any other solutions?

I appreciate any input you guys might have, and sorry for the long post. Just trying the keep the old girl on the road.

your truck should have rwal system and the control module for it should be behind the glove box and in the frame above rear axle should be the other part of the system. have you checked the ground connections on the light?

1. I would look at the EGR system.

2. It sounds like either you have some bulbs out or the flasher is bad.

3. The RWAL system on our trucks was a piece of crap from the start. Mine has never worked correctly. The system also has a speed sensor in the top of the rear differential. If you are going to try to make this system work I hope you have deep pockets. This system is independent of the speedometer/odometer system.

I have not checked the ground yet, I will definitely give that a try. I would be happy just getting the speedo to work again, and the biggest issue still is the quirky idle that decided to do whatever it want, which makes it fun to drive and fight the high, then low idle. Oh well, but thanks for the help so far, it gives me some starting points.

semi related question...is the speedo cable a universal part? or do you have to get a specific one?
