Arrgg... I hate sensors!
yes seal i agree with that,im just use to the older carb system easier to resolve an issue, cause no elec.crap on it. even though i have a 318 mpfi im still learning,{arent we all} thank you
Well it's official, I'm a dumbass! I got the truck back from the shop friday and they charged me $94.00. $55 for the tow and $39 for the diagnosis and inspection of the truck for any issues. I asked the guy what was wrong with it and he told me that the first thing the mechanic did was put a timing light to it and it was set 10* ATDC instead of 10* BTDC. I thought to myself, "How can that be??" I asked if the mechanic took it for a test drive and he said, "Yeah, the mechanic loved it - said it ran great!" Well, he was right - it does drive great - NOW! It was bothering the heck outta me and I thought that maybe the timing light I had been using was bad. So today after work, I put that sucker on there and Sonnavabitch.... as soon as I flashed the light, I saw it like a punch in the face. The mechanic had marked the timing with some wite-out way at the top. Well cockle-doodle-doo - time to WAKE UP! I had timed it to the little tube marking it as 10* ATDC. I never read the timing cover marks. All this time it was right under my nose.
I just gotta ask if the tube is supposed to be lined up on the timing mark and is it just on the wrong set of bolts or what? Anyhow, these guys coulda really stuck it to me - they made a lifetime customer outta me. Happy Days are about to begin...

that tube thing is for a magnetic timing thing. the timing marks are just below it. when i first got my 91 i thought the same thing and it ran like crap. i eventually looked hard enough and found the timing marks. they seem to get invisible when they get dirty.
hey sixgun,
glad to hear that you got your truck up and running good,in the beginng you believed the timing was right, that led me to believe that the chain and gears were put on wrong. that is why i said it is the valve timing, and not initial timing. by the way what shop did you use?? im alway looking for reliable shops around SA. TX. just in case these dumb dodge dealers cant work on an older dodge vehicles. its much to hot now to get alot done,i myself cant wait for cooler temps. good luck

So did the tires fix the vibration? I agree with SEAL that crow is a tough meal to swallow. It's hard when you're frustrated - I know. I was so sure that something had been messed with at the Trans Shop. I was driving about 45-50 mph smooth heading out. But I guess that one long drive and the stalling out was the straw that broke the camel's back. My problem has been looking back at me for a long time and I missed it. BTW does your truck have that little tube and is it lined up on the correct timing mark? It doesn't look like the tube can go that high up on the timing cover and fit. Right now I'm afraid to mess with anything to be honest. Real happy at the moment to say the least. Good luck with your problem.
