Default engine swap

First of all, please dont hate me for not being a name brand purist! I am looking into buying a 1987 W150 with a 318. I have owned 2 W150's & 2 D150's - all from the mid 80's. I liked the engines just fine, but I could never get decent mileage from either the 360 or the 318. I want to do a swap for a LS vette engine. They are easy enough to come by & have plenty of parts plus they are known for getting better mileage than the dodge V8's. Again, dont hate me because I admit it! In my past life (before major injury) I was an auto body man that did lots of wierd stuff. I think of this for the MPG factor, the ease of parts factor & the chance to upgrade to a painless harness with a GM tilt column also. Has anyone else done this swap? I am also curious about doing a swap for a moder hemi with cylinder delete for similar reasons, but those engines will cost a bit more for me. FYI - I can get a C5 running engine with harness for about $3k - $4k in my area,
