Default What year did they start using computers?

I'm looking at buying an older Dodge truck, and I'm wanting one without a computer. What year did they start putting computers in the Dodge trucks?

88 and newer is computer controlled throttle body injection. 87 and older is carbed but some of the carbed engines have computers behind the battery but you can convert it to a 4 pin ignition system for less than $300

What is a computer? Do you want to go back to a points style ignition? Some folks think all electronic control systems are computers.

88 is the first year comps were on all trucks so you're looking for 87 and older. If you do find a descent truck that has electronic spark advance (or lean burn), it is easy to remove the comp and go back to the ign module system. All you need is the plugs for the mod and ballast res from a non-comp system along with a vac adv distributor.
Good luck on the search!
