Default Steering Box - rebuild, replace, or remedy?

A few weeks ago my power steering box starting oozing fluid from one or more seals. It had always squealed at full extension, or when trying to turn against a curb or something. One day it just ran out of fluid, and thats when i noticed something was amok. My options seem to be replace, rebuild, or find some magic fairy dust to sprinkle in it to keep it from leaking. Its actually a rather slow leak. And my box is good otherwise. No play, and the truck tracks straight, and never wanders.

A reman box seems to be about $130, and a seal kit looks to be about $20-$25. I haven't tried any stop-leak yet.

have you tried 10w30 motor oil? $130 is cheap. my steering box has a leak but locally it would cost between $300-$400 for a steering box plus $100-$300 core charge. i have just been putting motor oil in mine. a seal kit here is at least $60.

$20 at Pick-n-Pull and even got a brand new hose for it. Looked like someone had just changed theirs before it got junked. No crud caked on it or anything.

I just picked up a quart of lucas power steering stop leak. If and when I go through 32 oz of stop-leak fluid, then I'll consider doing something more drastic.

Any idea how long that power steering stop leak lasts for? Putting 10/30 engine oil in the ps. How many miles could you get on that? a week? month? decade?

The lucas is working well so far. I'm maybe 2-4 ounces into it, and it is at least considerably slower. It is a very very thick red fluid, a lot like a grease.
