what year question
No offense taken or intended here. Just stating my opinion like you are. The forums have room for everyones opinion as far as I am concerned and I hope it stays that way. If we can't candidly express what we believe it would be detrimental to the aid we are here to provide each other. I do try to be sensitive to the problem of the intent of what I say when I type but sometimes the intent of all involved can be misunderstood and I do have a tendency to be blunt. LOL As long as cooler heads prevail as they are now further problems can be prevented. The truly personal attacks are what we all must band together to stop when they occur.
Maybe Dana has changed something with the seals in the newest designs if the 2nd Gens are having seal problems because I haven't heard about it in the older Dana 44 vacuum units that came in our trucks.
If you need the actuator Google "Dorman 600-202" and search around for the best deal.
I agree that this system is more complicated to service but the convenience to me is worth it especially when I have had no real problems with my axle unit. The only problem I have had is with the vacuum valve in the T-case and that is a problem inside the T-case and not with the valve itself. I might feel the same way you do if I had the problems you say they are having in the 2nd Gens.
