My thoughts exactly. He re-visted the pick up coil (Hall Effect Sensor) and when in the process of replacing it found the Stator? (probably not the right term) all rusty and corroded. He also cleaned and lubed all connections.

With the Hall Effect system I think the part that would be the closest to a stator is called the "interrupter", but there are so many names out there for these parts you can't be sure what someone might call it. Glad we could help you get your truck back on the road. Remember; keep the rubber side down and stay between the ditches. Good luck.
