Default 88' Ram help

Hey yall I'm from the 3rd Gen section, but i have a 1st Gen question. My dad has a 1988 dodge ram 1/2 ton with the 318 and 2wd. I was supposed to get this truck when i turned 16 but when i was about 13 the truck broke down. Dad said it was a cracked carb casing, and ya couldnt just buy a new holley and stick on it because its a " hybrid" type of carburetor it has to be from the same year truck. So he didnt want to put a bunch of money into it so he just parked it out in the woods. My question is couldnt i get a new intake manifold and new carburetor to put on it? I would like to get this truck back on the road one day. Thanks!

What you have there is a first year tbi. You can just grab one from a junkyard or ebay, or convert it to carb. I believe the throttle body itself should be the same from 88-91. Its really fuel injection in disguise. Search for some carb conversion threads on here to see what you would need to do to control the ignition.

i think now that you going try getting it going you may want to do a few things like drop the tank and empty stale old fuel/ check the fuel pump and see if the truck still has spark. if the pump still works and you can get fresh gas up to the injectors you might be able to get it running.

I would repair the fuel injection, but if that turns out to be more than its worth, I would throw an Edelbrock performer intake and an Eddy 1406 carb. Maybe $200 worth of hardware if you watch craigs and ebay long enough.
