Default TBI cold air intakes?????

I've been searching around looking for a CAI. Then I looked at my truck. Wouldn't modifying the intake screw up the computer? Some of the air is routed through the 'puter.

Any thoughts?

i think a CAI would not really be any better than a stock setup. the stock setup pulls nice cold air from behind the bumper where a CAI would be pulling in some of the warmer air from under the hood. just find a good quality air filter and you should be great.

I've been running a open element filer for about 29k miles now. My computer still computes, and my truck runs cleaner on an emissions test, and gets better gas mileage, and runs faster than when I had the stock setup. The open filter is NOT "why" those things are true. But, it hasn't stopped them either. The stock intake looked fairly restrictive to me. Sure its cold, but in my opinion, a large volume of warm air is better than a smaller amount of relatively cold air. Of course, a large volume of cold air would be best, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort for me to plumb a true high volume cold air intake.

Also, I have no problems with warmups on cold days.

i have been thinking about flipping the lid on my air cleaner just so it could breath more air but the only thing stopping me is all the oil and dirt that is on everything.

I use an Edlebrock open element air cleaner and I have no problems on cold or warm days. It "feels" like I accelerate a little better with the open element. Sounds a bit more "throaty" which is good for me.

What we do on the XJ's is add LeBaron vents to the hood to help pull in fresh air. I was toying with the idea of a twin snorkle air cleaner and a K&N filter.

It looked restrictive to me also, hence the question.
Thanks for the input.

I would imagine the off idle would be better with an open element.

Thanks guys!
