Default 76 dodge truck 360 won't run

a buddy of mine just traded for a 76 dodge pickup with 360 that wasn't running. he was told all it needs is points. We change the points put them were they need to be. Turned it over it didnt crank up. we changed spark plugs, wires, points and coil pack it hits once but goes died. it kept shooting out gas from the carb. We dont know what to do know plzz help!

what do you mean by shooting gas out the carb? is it coming out the barrels or is it coming out a hole in the top of the carb? have you checked to see if you are getting spark? if you are getting spark and it is shooting gas out the barrels than the timing might be off or distributor could be installed 180* out from where it should be.
