Default '84 3/4T front axle into '86 RC

I was browsing the boneyard for a 3.55 front axle for my '86 Ramcharger. I wanted one w/o the split axle, sliding collar setup, and found a 44 axle in an '84 3/4 ton P/U. What I'm wondering is...can I make this axle work in place of the 44-8FD with manual hubs? Could it be as simple as swapping spindles?

A little background: I put a 440/auto/203 w/part-time kit in my '86 RC. I have swapped out the 3.23 rear axle for a 3.55 and now need to do the front.

Thanks for the help!

Any axle guys out there?
What I'm thinking of doing is take the manual hubs/spindles off the 1/2 ton axle and put them on the 3/4 ton axle. Would that work? Thanks

Yes, you need to swap everything from the c's outward (spindle, hub, knuckle, etc.)

The D44 and D44HD are basically the same axle...

Ok, got it, sounds good. What do you mean "c's"... that flat flange on each end of the housing with about 6 bolts?

Sorry, the "C" I'm referring to is the welded to the axle tube . You need to replace all the parts from that point out.
