Default oil light ?

Truck is a 88 D100 with a 3.9 and a stick. Last week or so i have noticed the my oil light will come on for maybe 2 seconds. But get this only when i am at the road i live on and the driveway. It has oil in it 10w30 Mobil and just changed. I just had it changed bc had a gasket and timing chain replaced about 2 weeks ago. The filter is a Parts Plus. Someone told me to use a thicker oil 5w30 i think bc the walls are scarred. My gauge has not worked right and the po said he had it looked at and was told it is fine. Stays between the 1st and 2 nd line thanks

Put a mechanical gauge in it and find out for sure what your oil pressure is. The factory sending unit isn't the best even with a new one installed it's questionable.

Before you can troubleshoot the system you must know what your actual oil pressure is. Some possible causes in the FSM are faulty sending unit or gauge, relief valve stuck open, loose or missing cup plugs, worn oil pump, suction tube loose or seal leaking, loose main bearing cap or worn bearings.

plus you can get a mechanical gauges cheap. i picked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge with hoses and adapters a long while ago for about $8. i just have to see about installing it. i know the sending unit hole is smaller than any of the fittings that came with it.

I ran a brass tee fitting from a hardware store under the factory sending unit. Kept the sending unit going up and tapped the line into the side. Yeah, gauges are cheap considering. I picked up a 3 gauge setup with voltmeter, temp and oil pressure. Couldn't find a way to tap in the temp gauge that I'm confortable with though. Kept the gauge in the mounting plate in case I ever get clever enough to use it. LOL

5w30 should be thinner than 10w30. Were you going super slow or anything on your road? You'd have to be almost stalling though, so probably not. FYI, I only use certain oil filters on my truck now. I tried two different kinds of frams, and had a significantly lower reading on the stock gauge than with a mopar, wix, or napa filter.
