Default What is this thingymabobber on my 727 tailshaft?

This is not my transmission, but is close enough for reference's sake.

***EDIT*** It's a weight that's apparently used to dampen transmission and driveshaft vibration. Anybody know how to delete a thread?

Check out the tailshaft at the far right of the transmission. What's that u-shaped block bolted on under the tailshaft? I have one on mine, but have no idea what it is or anything about it. I was crawling around under my truck today and noticed that "thing", whatever it is, was loose. So i tightened it up some, and its still a little loose. I don't know how tight its supposed to be, so I didn't go overkill.

I haven't been able to find any other pictures of a 727 with that thing on it. My truck originally came with an a500 transmission, but I don't think that could really play into this much, other than opening up a world of possibilities as to the origin of my current transmission.
